Rules & Regulations For Burial Plots

Welcome to Pequest Union Cemetery, our mission is to create a place of peace where individuals and families can reflect in their time of loss.

We are a volunteer-run board of trustees dedicated in the time honored tradition of caring for the deceased with dignity and respect, as we have since 1889.

The Pequest Union Board of Trustees has enacted the following rules and regulations for the safety of visitors and staff. They have been established to maintain the beauty, order and reverence of the cemetery for generations to come. The following is to clarify the rules and regulations.

The Board reserves the right to add additional Rules and Regulations of adjust as necessary.

Visition
The cemetery is open dawn to dusk for visitation

Dogs
No dogs are allowed in the Cemetery.

Vehicles
All persons entering the Cemetery grounds with a vehicle (motorized or not) will confine themselves to the roads and driveways.

Vehicles will be expected to drive no faster than 10 miles per hour

No remote controlled vehicles of any kind will be operated on Cemetery roads. No remote items such as planes, cars, drones, etc. may not be operated in/on or over Cemetery property.

Flowers and Plantings
Fresh cut flowers are permitted at any time within the maintained 10″ planting area at the head of the grave (the exception is at the time of burial. At this time flowers may extend into the plot.

• Annual flowers are allowed during the growing season (spring through fall) may be planted no more than 10 inches from the the front of the monument. They may not extend over into the main plot. The Cemetery does not provide maintenance of such plantings. Owners must water, weed and remove plants when no longer blooming. Unauthorized or neglected plants will be removed without notice by Cemetery staff.

• Nom plantings are allowed on the  sides or back of the monument except for family plots or single plots with road frontage.

• No trees, shrubs, bulbs, vines, bushed or perennials plants are allowed.

• No plantings are allowed around secondary markers (Veterans markers, etc.)

• No fencing or personal benches of any kind will be placed around or in the plot.

• Only natural hand dug borders are acceptable.

• No wood , metal or stone pavers are allowed to outline the 10-inch planting area. No glass, Stones, or gravel may be used as bedding materials in the planting area.

• At no time can the entire plot covered with any product other than the grass planted by the Cemetery.

Only temporary markers provided by the funeral home are allowed. Such markers may only be placed in the future headstone area of the grave. Temporary marker may only be in place for one year.

Artificial Flowers
Artificial flowers are allowed from November 1 to April 1 within the 10″ maintained bed. No items may be placed on top of the monuments.

Winter Holiday Decorations
Wreaths and planter boxes are permitted in the 10 inch planting area 0r in vases attached to the headstone between December 1 to March 1. Grave blankets may be placed on the plot at this time but not to extend over the plot area. If you wish to retain these items they must be removed by March 1 or they will be disposed of during the spring cleanup. Garland and Christmas trees are not permitted.

Monument Dimensions
The following are the dimensions for monuments and bases. All monuments not in compliance with stated size will be removed at owner expense.

8 Burial Plots ……………. 84″ long, 20″ wide, 48″ high

2 or 4 Burial Plots ……………. 48″ long, 16″ wide, 36″ high

Single Burial Plots ……………. 24″ long, 12″ wide, 30″ high

General Items
In order to maintain the dignity and safety of our Cemetery grounds, food and beverages are prohibited from being left at the grave site at any time.

No solar lights, wind chimes, flag poles, garden flags or political signs or flags may be placed on the plots. Only small flags such as U.S. military service and first responders and American\n flags may be placed within the 10″ planting area.

To maintain the safety and dignity of our grounds the following are prohibited: food, beverages, balloons, toys, stuffed animals, glass objects, shells, birdhouses and stepping stones. These items will be removed and discarded without notice.

Cemetery staff will conduct random inspections of all grave sites. Decorations that are faded, broken, improperly placed or out of compliance with these rules will be removed without notice. Items removed by the Cemetery staff will be held for 30 days. Unclaimed items will be discarded after 30 days.
